Let Your Customers Do The Selling

Many businesses today are finding great success utilizing customer video testimonials (talking head) which allow prospects to see and hear business people gushing about a product, service, and/or business.  Imagine any time visitors go to your website they get their first impression from a talking head sharing how your business solved a critical business problem.  In addition to the internet, these video testimonials can be utilized in sales presentations, trade shows or as part of a marketing campaign. 

Are You Presenting the Right Message?
Research demonstrates video testimonials are impactful, but like any medium there is a positive impact and a negative impact.  More than not businesses record their customers, and paste these testimonials on their websites.  These posted videos, however, simply do not attain the message and actually present a negative image.  How?
     
Three miscues that are very common:
     

  1. The testimonial conveys no unique value
    "I recommend ABC Company, because they were on-time and great guys!"  This could be about any company and offers nothing persuasive.

  2. The testimonial is "cheer-leading"
    No specific story or problems are recanted and the speaker just raves about the product, service, and/or business.  While a cheerleader is great, real buyers want to hear from the "player" perspective on how they won.

  3. The testimonial dedicates too much time to the speaker.
    The customer is long-winded and rambles on about his business, but says little about the company
